Nail survival guide... after acrylics

Your hands are maybe one of the first things people notice about you, so your nails are part of that first impression.
Most women love to go get manicures, but other opt for acrylics nails.

Acrylics make your life easier, you just go to the salon, and they take care of you, your polish stays on longer, and you can change the style of your nail when ever you fill like it, plus they look great. But this comes at a price... What happens to your natural nail under all of that acrylic?
Chemicals used in the acrylic nail application damage your natural nail, making them dry, brittle, thin and weak.

This is how my nails look like after a month from taking off my artificial nails...

I know, I know... NOT pretty, but they're recovering, and recovering takes lots of patience and care.

Here are a few tips to get your natural nails looking great and healthy again.

1. Weekly manicures

If you're not willing to spend extra cash going to the salon every week, try to do an at home manicure. Here's a guide to get a perfect at home manicure. Consider including olive oil or vitamin E oil. Olive oil penetrates the skin and promote healthy nail growth.
You can also soak your nails in warm olive oil once a week for a few minutes to help fortify them.

2. Short & sweet

Try to keep your nails short until they grow strong and can handle being long again.
                * Trimming your nails weekly will encourage healthy nail growth.*

3. Buff away

Buff the surface of your nail LIGHTLY once a week to get rid of the bumps you might have on your nails and smooth them out.

4. Moisturize your hands constantly

5. Have patience

Have lots and lots of patience, because for some people, it takes from 3 to 6 months to completely replace a nail. Using a nail strengthener might help. It also helps if you DO NOT use your nails as tools! Guilty!  But for my nail's sake I'm trying to get rid of this bad habit.

How is/was your transition from fakes to natural nails?
